Freemasonry is a world-wide, non-religious, fraternal and charitable organisation that has been around for more than 300 years. It consists of a body of men brought together for the sake of mutual, intellectual, social and moral improvement. We recognise no distinction of religion and emphasise the duties of citizenship.

The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is the presiding body for the more than 200,000 active Freemasons that meet throughout the country, which is divided into 47 masonic Provinces plus London.

The Province of Hampshire & Isle of Wight is one of the largest in the country, consisting of around 11,000 masons in over 250 Lodges that meet between 38 different masonic centres across the province, and so is divided into 6 areas. Absit Invidia is part of the South East Area which consists of fifty lodges and nearly 2000 Masons located at Masonic centres in Horndean, Purbrook, Cosham, Havant and Old Portsmouth. Portsmouth being an old Naval port, we have some of the oldest lodges in the area, with one of them dating back to 1786.

Building Great Friendships • Making a difference

Freemasonry is about making new friends and acquaintances, and being able to help deserving causes - making a contribution to family and society. It's a most rewarding pastime and hobby that's enjoyed by all its members.

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It teaches self-knowledge and assurance through participation in a progression of ceremonies and nowadays our members are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry.
